ABOUT ME
My name is Rachel Billings, and I'm an independent filmmaker originally from Bronxville, New York and now based in New York City. Creating stories is all I've ever wanted to do with my life. After dabbling in poetry, fiction, theater, and journalism for many years, I fell in love with filmmaking while studying at Kenyon College.
Since graduating in 2022, I've written, directed, produced, and co-edited two short films: Teen Gay Fairytale and Nothing Changes Here. My pilot script, Pecan Falls, was selected for the Imagine This Women's International Film Festival in 2023. I'm currently developing an experimental dramedy called The Animator.
My brand as a filmmaker is defined by style and intention rather than genre, subject matter, or industry trends. My stories dig into the messy corners of our minds through quirky characters and dialogue that will make you laugh one minute, then cry the next. I emphatically believe in the power of indie filmmaking and fostering collaborations that prioritize respect, fairness, and creative risk-taking.

I additionally freelance as a Producer, Production Coordinator, Office Assistant, and Production Assistant for union and non-union projects. I am also a second-round script reader for the Austin Film Festival.
In my free time, I enjoy traveling, going to concerts, playing the New York Times words games, hanging out with friends, and snuggling with my tabby cat, Winston.

CREATIVE PROJECTS
TEEN GAY FAIRYTALE (2026)
Writer, Director, Co-Producer, Co-Editor

After his classmates out him, star lacrosse bro Jax McCauley is pressured to date the only other openly gay student—despite having nothing in common and quietly falling for his straight best friend. This quirky, coming-of-age short film satirizes the way queer romances are typically presented in high school stories.

NOTHING CHANGES HERE (2025)
Writer, Director, Producer, Editor

Cameron mysteriously finds himself reunited with his estranged ex-wife, Anjelie, on the NYC rooftop where they first met. The only problem is, that rooftop party was decades ago... and Anjelie's been dead for years. How did they get there? Where even are they? And what do they say to each other after all this time apart? This dramatic short film explores the idea of how people might reflect on their relationships when things like time and space don't exist any more.

STILL OHIO (2024)
Associate Producer, Production Coordinator

An overly anxious college kid, Ana, transfers to Tulane to be with her boyfriend and hitches a ride to campus with his three friends. Along the way, the fours students find themselves inexplicably stuck in a time loop at a remote gas station in Ohio, where a series of increasingly disturbing encounters force Ana to question what she really wants... and if she can even survive to get it. This contained horror story takes a deep dive into how terrifying it can be to become an adult and go out into the world for the first time.
